The Knotty Smartweeds
Smartweeds (Persicaria spp.), members of the knotweed (Polygonaceae) family, collectively are a common and ubiquitous group of plants, but individually can be challenging to identify. Through an interactive presentation, a look at herbarium specimens, and a field session devoted to observing smartweeds in the wild, this class will focus on the identification features that distinguish each of the 22 species in New England.
